WATER LEVEL

An ice cube contains an iron ball in it and floats in water contained in a vessel.What will happen if the ice melts away?

a. The water level will go up.
b. The water level will go down
c. There will be no change in the water level
d.The water level will first rise and then it will go down
e. None of the above

Ans is- b.
How??? Please explain!!

For same mass volume of ice is greater than that of water.

So as iron ball is inside the ice cube. The ice cube floats in water.

So initial volume=volume of water + volume of ice
final volume=volume of water + volume of water(from ice)

final volume is lesser
