In the heating part, there is also a possibility of the -OH group beta to the carboxylic acid group leaving by E1CB mechanism, forming an alkene, but since the -OH group delta to the carboxyl-group leaving generates a six membered ring, the water molecule leaving from the delta position is preferred.
