Simple rainwater is only contaminated with carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide and minute amounts of acidic salts, which makes it less acidic.

But during lightening, Nitric acid is formed, along with two types of acids of sulphur (sulphuric and sulphurous) and carbonic acid. This makes it more acidic.

Only during lightning does atmospheric N2 react with O2 to form NO.
N2+O2→2NO
2NO+O2→2NO2
2NO2+H2O→HNO2+HNO3
which is a mixture of 2 acids, making the rainwater acidic.
