IIT JEE 2012 - Post Exam Discussion

Well ,the title is obvious. Any thing to share. Personally, I feel that this year's paper was DIFFICULT than the Previous years one. The questions which were doable were lenghtly (not all I mean) and some were really outsmarting.

How do u think?

according to iit cutoff is 142.
all of you can check your ranks in fiitjee website 'IITJEE 2012 success check' though they have taken the cut off to be 179.

Hey there was a subjective question in maths in paper 1 where it was written x ≡ IR now is that IR symbol for real numbers or Irrational numbers.????

LOL

Actually when we denote the set of real numbers by R, we use a double line to denote the vertical line of R. What I mean looks like \mathbb{R}.

The latex code is \mathbb{R}. I was also surprised to see ''IR ''. Final word : it is the set of real numbers, which was typed as IR , the reason being the lack of typing knowledge or mathematical knowledge or both of them of those who typed it ;)

the cutoff is gonna be 165 only n 143 is not the cutoff....
above 143 u'll b told ur rank whether ur selectd or nt...
I even knw people getting 382 and 370 from my centre...
so dnt expect anything below 165

the faculty at my inst say the cutoff will be around 140-150.
i am getting 163.

@shahbaz that cut off is not 'issued' by any coaching institute. it was declared by the IITs themselves, 6 months back.

Between Resonance and fiitjee rank predictor which one do you think is better.

Personally, I feel the resonance one

A question( not directly related to this)
What is the difference between 4 yr B.tech and 5-year dual degree(B.tech + M. tech) in computer Science.

And why is the 4 yr one preferred by students?

rishabh ·

@fermat even i think resonance is better.
your marks?

hii everyone dont make urself happy by imagining lower cutoff s this year...........it would be at least 55 percent considering ........the loads of time given to solve mere 20 questions.......so anything below 65 percent (for general category}in my opinion wont be of any help.....

Resonance is better.

i hv a ques in the second ppr chem section...
in the paragraph related to organic chemistry shouldnt the compund k be option (a) as H2 / Pd-C is a strong reducing agent and should thus reduce -COOH to -CH2OH
all the coaching institutes said option (c)

1
varun.tinkle ·

if i am not mistaken only h2/ni can reduce cooh

1
dvjbndlsh ·

H2 /ni and h2/pd-c perform the same basic function...
providing h radical on a catalyst surface
