Abhirup...the fullerene option is right

With mass spectrometry, discrete peaks were observed corresponding to molecules with the exact mass of sixty or seventy or more carbon atoms. In 1985, Harold Kroto (then of the University of Sussex), James R. Heath, Sean O'Brien, Robert Curl and Richard Smalley, from Rice University, discovered C60, and shortly thereafter came to discover the fullerenes - Wikipedia

so is it wrong or something??

btw how much did u score??

ABHI ·

i also marked U with the same explanation...actually i put all the alphabets with their respective numbers and then it was coming 21 which is U

cipher1729 ·

for the circular letters question,
? should be 'U' becoz if u go in the clockwise manner starting from A , and u write the numerical equivalent numbers of the characters , u get the fibonacci series.

And i had 19 mins remaining when i started the 12 extra questions and finished it with 1 min to go. It could have been 25 mins remaining for the 12 questions but i wasted by time on an electrostatic sum

and they provide a 8-page pad which was quite sufficient for the whole exam.

50% of the questions were quite easy. And the rest 50% involved some mugging up abilities, some tricky conceptual questions, and maybe 3% of them were on the tougher side (which would include 2 from english paragraph cause i had to read the paragraph 6 times and then i could answer the given question). And the extra 12 questions --as far as the set which i got, maths was easy, physics conceptual, chemistry had 3 organic(one iupac naming, one reaction based and the other stability of 1 tert-butyl 4 methyl cycloheptane) and one calculation based sum from thermo. It was easy. But the IUPAC naming was a little on the difficult side might seem weird but it was little confusing.

MATHS:

*** The slope of normal is x2+4. Find the curve which passes through (2,4)

*** Distance between the 2 lines 2x+2y+z=5 and 2x+2y+z=11.

*** a+ibc+id=x+iy. Find a2+b2c2+d2
a) x2+y2
b) x2-y2
c) √x2+y2
d) √x2-y2

*** 4 3D geometry questions. One was distance between a point and a line, another involving angle between 2 lines and the 2 others find the intersection point.

*** Few from functions out of which 2 were very tough according to me.

*** Few from Straight Lines and Circles.

*** 25x2-144y2=3600. find the focus.

*** pi/6pi/4∫lntanxdx

*** f(x) = ax+bcx-a. Find f(f(x)

*** f(x) and g(x) are two continuous functions in [a,b] such that f(a)=g(a) and f(b)=g(b). Then there will be atleast one point for both the curves where
a) the tangents are parallel
b) the tangents are parallel to x-axis
c) the normals are parallel
d) the normals are perpendicular to the x-axis

*** Not much from Complex no or Logarithm

*** 2sin∂=cos∂. Find the number of solutions.

*** 7cos∂+5sin∂=2k+1. find the no. of integral solutions of k

*** 3x+4y=1. y=mx+1. Find the no. of integral solutions of m such that x is also an integer.

*** Nothing from vector(for me)

*** there was one from tautology which i dont know so i dont remember anything of it.

will post more when and if i remember

NOW CHEMISTRY

***Thermo Questions involving H=U+PV

***1 Organic question involving Kjeldahl's method.

***Reducing sugars and non-reducing sugars can be distinguished - NaHCO3, Biuret test, Ninhydrin Test, Fehling's solution

***Fullerene structure was known by : three dirty options and mass spectrometry(i marked mass spectrometry so remember it)

***If E is the energy of the ground state level of an electron in an one-dimensional box of length L. Then what is the energy of the 2nd excited state - a) 9E, b) 4E/L, c) 2E, d) 3E

***Then a few involving atomic radius (n2/Z), velocity (Z/n), etc typed questions

***At what temperature will the rms velocity of SO2( at NTP) be equal to that of Cl2. (no need for options. solve it yourself)

***At what temperature will the average velocity of H2 (at 20K) be equal to that of O2

***Then there was 1 question from organic
C2H6---(A)--->C2H4
Ethylene reacts with H2O, acid catalysed KCN and H2SO4 to give B,C,D. Identify B,C,D. Options were given but dont remember it. And here A is temperature not any reagent

***Which involves the highest temperature?
a)Self -reduction
b)Slag elimination
c) Reduction with something(dont remember)
d) All same temperature.

*** Then a question was given based on that fact H2O2 forms a blue layer with ether. Dont remember exactly the question nor the options

*** Solid State--Co-ordination number of BCC structure.

*** Mg has greater second ionization enthalpy than first. Yet it forms MgCl2 and not MgCl. Reason?

*** one periodic table question based on the trend of ionisation energy along the period.

*** two question of co-ordination. Dont remember it. One involved Hg(SCN)Co something....dont remember exactly. Other was something with charge on Cu but it was an easy one.

*** Amphoteric oxide : Ge2O, Na2O, SO2, Cl2O7

*** most soluble sulphate : CaSO4, SrSO4, BaSO4, another one from the same group.

will post more when and if i remember

Starting with English and logical reason (questions which i remember)

There were 6 fill in the blanks of which i remember one.

***He is a petty thief, ______?
a) isnt he?
b) wasnt he?
c) doesnt he?
d) was he?

There were also fill in the blanks with prepositions, one with appropriate phrases.

***2 paragraph -comprehensions and 3 arrange the jumbled sentences

***Meaning of regale....---excited, fluttered, entertained, punished?

*** B C

Had my BITS today

Maths was pretty easy. It had 1 tautology question for me which i guessed.

English had 2 long paragraphs (for me) and asked the meaning of "regale". Logical reasoning was also simple.

Physics and Chemistry were a bit on the tougher side. Chemistry involved lots of mugging based questions. (I got 1) What is salt coke? 2) How was structure of fullerene known? etc). Physics mostly concept-based.

Overall a good paper.

one of my friend gettin 292.. he said questions were mainly conceptual typed

1.618 ·

My seniors who gave BITSAT (11th-14th) said:

Maths- very easy
Chem- memory based ("trivial" topics consisted 25% paper)
Phy- conceptual (hardly 20 questions were calculative, rest reasoning)

NOTE: A lot of trick questions in physics and maths...accounting for major chunk of negatives.

Will keep updating. [on 17th, 20th and 25th..]

I WILL TRY AND MEMORIZE MY QUESTIONS (AS MUCH AS I CAN) AND PUT IT UP HERE ON MONDAY EVENING...MY DATE IS ON 17TH MAY

Avik ·

Pata nahi, tht is wht one of my friends told me ki its worth attemting...matlab even if u do 5-6 correctly (which can be done if u got the time), u cover most of ur negative marks.

Anyways, pehle toh we have to worry about completing all 150 Qn(s) with 15-20 mins remaining to give the xtra-12 a shot. :O

1
The Enlightened One - jsg ·

Thanks , Avik , but are sure about the extra 12 , because one of my seniors in Pilani [BITSAT Score : 375] told me that they were of JEE level !! ???

Avik ·

Feedback i received frm some of my friends (these aint my own views)-
*Maths- Basic...CBSE school level.
*Physics- Ok/not tough.
*Chem.- Bit memory based/but manageable (Do not forget Metallurgy ores & Evryday Life.)

*Rely on pencil fr rough work...so tht u can use an eraser if the need arises.
*Try learning some new english words. (Some random meaning based Qn(s) are being/ can be fired.)
*The Xtra-12 are not difficult, rather of same level as previous ones.
