In Standard Hydrogen Electrode represented by Pt(s)|H2(g)|H+(aq) has the reaction H+(aq) + e-→ ½H2O.. so.. there is a gain of electrons=> reduction=> its a cathode.. the why is the standard hydrogen electrode taken as anode while constructing the second half cell?
