Explain Searle's Method in detail

I am pretty sure that a Question on this one is possible!

young's modulus of a material in the form of a wire can be accurately determined by searle's method. In this method ,
1)the apparatus consists of two rectangular metal frames P and Q joined by a third frame R such that the relative displacement is possible

2)one end of eh spirit level is fixed in the frame P and the other rests on the tip of the micrometer screw in the frame Q.

3)two identical wires are suspended from the rigid support and their ends are connected to the tops of the frames P and Q

4) A dead L load is then suspended from frame P and a hanger H is suspended from frame Q.(this is assumed as zero load position)

5)WHEN DEAD LOAD AND THE HANGER ARE SUSPENDED , SPIRIT LEVEL IS ADJUSTED BY ROTATING MICROMETER SCREW AND MICROMETER READING I9S NOTED.

6)A load is then increased in steps of 1/2 kilogram. The frame Q lower since the wire extends. The spirit level is adjusted every time by micrometer and micrometer reading is noted

7)the distance through which the screw moves is equal to the increase in length of the wire during that step of loading

8) in this way six readings are noted

9)the load is now graduly decreased , again in steps of 1/2 kilogram and readings are taken in the same manner as before

10) if the elongation is within the elastic limits , the readings taken while unloading are same as readings taken while loading the wire.

11) a graph of extension (l) against the load (m) is plotted . it is a straight line whose slope gives average value of l/m.

then Y=mgL/pir2l = gL / pir2 x 1/l/m

Y= gL/pi r2 x 1/ slope of graph

I have no idea.. I dont think too many ppl know

That question I gave because I knew that most ppl skip this topic...

but then not many give the Test series that are free :D

I will show the JEE 2007 Question that they gave on searle's method

Resonance tube link : (explanation is nice) [but we'll need a better formula-based info]

1) I'm a part of the "NOT MANY" wich tuk da test [3]

2)

Y = (F.L)/(A∂L)

fir use error analysis...... I guess for division v hav subtraction

and for squaring, multipliczation

IS DA ANSWER = A

nooo tapan u r rong.....[2]
Find Y=FL/Al=2 * 1011
then use ΔY/Y=2(Δd/d)+Δl/l
put values to get 0.2 & 1011
=>Y+ΔY=2.2 *1011
