Nishant and Prashant have hit the nail on the head when they say that the best part of the place is that you are surrounded by peers and seniors who are pretty much at the top in just about everything. In academics, sports, cultural, even social-service related events, in all these sphere you will find some really great talent. In Chennai, we had "Saarang", a cultural festival. Almost every event, debate, JAM, Crossword, I would find guys extra-ordinarily good at them.

On the whole, its a stimulating environment (and nothing like Chetan Bhagat has described!)

Well First and foremost.

IIT is not about studies. Many of you would be shocked to know this but this is a fact. IIT is more about all round development and all things that you can think of apart from studies.

Studies is a seasonal phenomenon. Everyone studies near the exams. Not everyday. The 10 days of exams are full time studies...

The Professors are of both kinds. Some of them are extraordinary the other half extraordinary in the wrong sense ;)

The best thing there is the students. When you are close to passing out you will realise how every single person is talented. Everyone has something extraordinary about them. And every individual can give you something to learn. (Everyone means around 80%) of the guys.

You will rarely meet people who are very arrogant.. mainly bcos they know that they are among a set of extraordinary individuals.

You will benchmark yourself against the best.

This I think was the true representation of what I feel aobut IITs.

You'll know when you'll get there.

The first thing you'll realise would be the fact that every person you see in IIT has a story. The story of their hard work and the way they made it to that place. You know you are between elites and this helps you in keeping yourself focussed.

The next thing you'll see will be the love and respect for one another in every student. Well, I think IIT was the best thing that happened in my life and so would be for many others. You get a healthy atmosphere, open-minded people, dedicated minds and a rich culture.

Wish you guys the very best wishes to do well in your examinations.

Cheers!!
