Velocity of the man as he covers the distance of the rope,

v2-u2=2as

v=√2gh
=98 ms-1

Distance travelled while decelerating with a= -98ms-2,

v2-u2=2as

0-982=2(-98)s

s=49 m

Therefore, the total height through which he falls,

H=h+s
= 490+49 = 539 m
