ORTHOGONAL CURVES???

Wat is the basic condition for two curves to be orthogonal ??

I know they need to intersect at 90° but wat abt the CASE WER the two CURVES INTERSECT EACH OTHER MORE THAN ONCE ???

eg. x2 = y and y2 = x

are these said to be orhtogonal ???

I dont know what the definiton for orthogonality of 2 curves is

but i think orthogonality of two curves is usually talked at the point of intersection...

Here the answer will depend on the point where we are analysing

SIR BUT ITS THERE IN THE NCERT (AS FAR AS I REMEMBER )
THAT 2 CURVES R ORTHOGONAL WHEN THEIR TANGENTS ARE ORTHOGONAL[1]

Okie!! so it is orthogonal at origin, but non-ortho at x = 1 = y.......

hmm.. okie mani.. i din know that..

DRAW THE TANGENTS FROM THE RESPECTIVE POINTS
THE BASIC CONDITION IS IF 2 CURVES R ORTHOGONAL THEN THEIR TANGENTS R ALSO ORTOGONAL!!!!!

yes they must be orthogonal curves

READ AT UR OWN RISK

jaise ek chori inssan ko chor bana deti hai
waise hi ek baar orthogonally katne waale curves unko orthogonal bana dete hain[3]

oh k!! thats fair enuf.........

now if u know tell me wether this is a pair of orthogoanl curves or NOT??????

COZ at One of the 2 pts. of Intersectn The tangents are at 90° at other THEY R NOT.........

m1=0 , m2 =∞

m1=-1/m2 = -1/∞ =0 satisfies... [i dunno if its a rather weird explanation!]
