guys,
a couple of years back, when i attended the Ntse interview they asked me this question for which i openly admitted that i do not know the and
the ques was "what is the reaction between NH₃and Mg?"

till this date i dont know the ans!!!!

what is the reaction???

practically Mg is not amphoteric so there is no reaction....

Mg does not react with dry NH₃ gas. But if they meant liquid NH₃, then Mg dissolves forming ammoniated ions(violet). Mg+10NH₃=[Mg(NH₃)₆]²⁺+2[e(NH₃)₂]^-. the ammoniated electrons absorb energy in the visible region of light and impart violet colour.
