MOT

σ-bond is stronger than a Π-bond.....
hence when electrons are filled in the molecular orbitals σ2px should be filled before Π2py (or 2pz), (as in case of molecules with no. of electrons ≥ 15)....
but for molecules with electrons ≤ 14, the Π2p orbital is filled before σ2p!!!!
WHY???

well this change in theory was made in order to satisfy the magnetic properties of diatomic boron...

check out with the 2 formats

in the revised format the magnetic property of diatomic boron comes to be paramagnetic unlike the old format and that is true! (i.e. diatomic boron is paramagnetic)

but i guess energy related reasons......

Well, We just know that the former has lower energy as latter has higher Energy.

But All in this sense are theoretical. Who knows that a new compound may again cause a twist in these patterns.

yup
it just needs some more experiments!!!!:P

there is nothing lik experiment involved in dis case and itz clear frm the defintion dat hybridisation occurs b/w AOs of identical or nearly same energy .............so after 14 electron series is over the energy gap b/w 3s and 3d AO is large when compared to 2s and 2p AOs so it happens dear..........and it is clearly mentioned ncert 11 so u can refer it i f u wan...............................
