open pipe is in resonance in 2nd harmonic with frequncy f1.Now one end is closed and frequncy is increasd to f2 such taht resoance is in nth harmonic.Find n and relation b/w f2 and f1

f1 = 2v/2l

f2= nv/4l

so, f2=n f1/4

n=4f2/f1

thats the soln every book has...but for closed pipe..frequncy is (2n+1)v/4l

and not nv/4l

ya bhaiya but when said nth harmonic then it is nv/4l isn't it.

for nth overtone

it will be (2n+1)v/4l

f1=vl ( 2nd harmonic of open pipe )
f2=n(v4l (nth harmonic of closed pipe )

here f2 > f1 and that is possible when n=5 i.e; f2=54(vl ) = 5/4 f1

hence we get n =5 and f2 = 54 f1
