COM frame vs Ground Frame

A block of mass m is connected to another block of mass M by a massless spring of spring constant k. The blocks are kept on a smooth horizontal plane. Initially, the blocks are at rest and the spring is unstretched when a constant force F starts acting on the block of mass M to pull it. Find the max. extension of the spring.

The solution given to this in HCV uses COM as the reference frame.
How do you solve it from ground frame?

forget the hcv solution i did it this way.

force on M block F-kx/M=a

NOW SITTING ON THAT BLOCK m dv/dt =kx-m(F-kx/M). multiply by dx on both sides n integrate .on the velcity side integrate from 0 to 0 since at maxcompression v relative =0
2F/(m+M)k=x
