CONCEPT :- For a system to be in equilibrium, the torques acting on it must balance. This is true when we take torques about any point on the system or outside it.

DOUBT :- Does the above statement hold when the system is in only rotational equilibrium but has translational motion???? PLZ EXPLAIN

"For an object to be in static equilibrium, not only must the sum of the forces be zero, but also the sum of the torques (moments) about any point. For a two-dimensional situation with horizontal and vertical forces, the sum of the forces requirement is two equations: ΣH = 0 and ΣV = 0, and the torque a third equation: Στ = 0. That is, to solve statically determinate equilibrium problems in two-dimensions, we use three equations."

Thus, I think that above statement is valid/True only for Rotational Equilibrium and not for Translational motion.

This is valid only for the body to be in rotational equilibrium.

For the body to be in rotational as well as translational equilibrium,

1) the vector sum of all the forces that act on it must be ZERO

2)Th vector sum of all the external torques that act on body, measured about any possible point MUST BE ZERO.

Further if the body has to be in static equilibrium then there is one more condition

3)the linear momentum P of the body must be zero.
