A cubical block is to be constructed with iron sheets 1mm in thickness. What can be the minimum value of the external edge so that the cube doesnt sink in water? Density of iron=8000kg/m3 and density of water=1000kg/m3

I solved it like this,

(Lext-Lint)ρirong=(Lext)3ρwaterg

=> (2*10-3)3*8000=(Lext)3*1000
=> 64*10-9=(Lext)3

Lext=4*10-3 m

Ans = 4.8cm [2]

I got the answer! [1]

Solution:

(Vext - Vint)ρirong=Vextρwaterg

Vintρiron=Vext(ρiron-ρwater)

Let the length of edge be Lcm.

(L-0.2)3*8=L3*7

=> L ≈ 4.6cm
