Guys, I'm all at sea with concepts on impulse. Pls explain what impulse is and then give formulas related to it. Pls guys. Thanx in advance [1]

an impulse is defined as the integral of a force with respect to time. When a force is applied to a rigid body it changes the momentum of that body. A small force applied for a long time can produce the same momentum change as a large force applied briefly, because it is the product of the force and the time for which it is applied that is important.

Impulse can be easily understood by taking a familiar example da

Consider M.S.Dhoni is smashing a ball to get the boundary line.

while he hits the ball with his bat the ball feels a time varying very strong force.This very strong force acts till it is in contact with the bat.Due to the strong force anyother internal force between the bat and the ball like the friction and other force will become negligble

∫FΔt=∫dp

This integration can be approximated to

FΔt=∫dp

The impulse is defined as FveΔt=change in momentum

Fave is the average of the strong force acting for very

short interval

superman :

Everyone knows abt superman.In a fight against terrorists superman was being attacked by two terrorists by their guns.The bullets from their guns were shot at the rate of 200 bullets per minute.Assume the bullets strikes the chest of the superman and they return from his chest elastically.Wat is the average force that supermans chest feels?????The mass of a bullet is abt 1gm

From the impulse eqn

Dhoni will hit a six if he strikes the ball with the bat within very short interval or a four dat depends on the interval

My definiton:
Impulse is change of linesar momentum if force is defined with functon of time and its accelration vector in that time interval is defined....
if force acts on a body only for an instant,then accelration is not defined,thats why only change in momentum is calculated .....{not the initial and final values}

Area under F-t curve is change of linear momentum[1]
