6well how can we say that the direction of the motion of the planet and the earth are both in the same direction! if they are in the same direction then my the concept of the relative angular velocity the planet will cross the earth back in 1.5 years and if we consider the planet and the earth revolving in opposite direction how come we say 1.5 years rather it would be then .5 years! or 6 months in fact!
