a circular hole of radius r/2 is cut from a solid sphere of radius r. if the mass of the remaining plate is M ten what is the moment of inertia about an axis through the centre of original sphere, parallel to the hole?

see moment of inertia works on both the addition and subtraction principle...

So the thing is that if 1/4th mass is removed then the remaining mass is M

so the original mass was 4/3M

the moment of intertia of that part is ???? (Fill urself) I1

Now the moment of intertia of the part removed = ???????? (Fill urself) I2

So the moment of intertia is I1-I2

what if the hole is itself a complex structure, as a hole in a sphere.... how will we calculate the moment of inertia in that case
