dunno.............i never had stress in my life...........
i think scalar....coz many people face only its magnitude....and i nevr heard any of them saying i had stress today in d north direction or sumthing like that......
so i think scalar..

stress comes in d category of "tensor",which means neither scalar nor vector.its not scalar as for a given force it has different values in different directions.its also not a vector as it has no specific direction.
moment of inertia is another example of "tensor".
