Swimmer Problem

Two swimmers leave point A on one bank of a river to reach point B on the other bank.

One of the swimmers swims along straight line AB while the other swims perpendicular to the direction of flow of the stream and walks the distance he has been carried away by the river, to B.

Find the velocity u of his walking, if both swimmers reached the destination simultaneously?

Given
Stream velocity V0=2km/h
Velocity of each swimmer in still water= 2.5 km/h

vmr=2.5 kmph
vr=2kmph

tmin=d / vmr = d/2.5
tdmin =d / √(v2mr - v2r ) =d/√2.25=d / 1.5
drift x=vr* tmin
= 2*d/2.5
let reqd. vel. be v
then
d/1.5=d/2.5 + (2d/2.5)/v
solve it and get v= 3 km/h
