sorry in case of 1,3 anhydride formation is also not possible

i will take third one as inorganic product in that case solution given by anurag is quite right

I can't understand..
"A on treatment with Br2/Fe yields 3 products in principle but in actual practice, only 2 of these are produced as mono-bromo derivative"
is it means 2 mono bromo products and one dibromo.. but then no structure i am getting for A

Gaurav Sir , the exact language is """ A on treatment with Br2/Fe yields 3 products in principle but in actual practice, only 2 of these are produced as mono-bromo derivative"""

anurag this is most probable ans but this one not satisfying the second rxn as i have mentioned earlier infact no comp is satisfying the second rxn

eureka can u check the Br2/Fe part of the question i am not getting the point is "two are mono bromo derivative " is third a non mono bromo derivative or Br is just not directly attached with the ring

ya u are right, but generally we come across cases where mostly 1,2 are present.

but in exam I think only say that 1,2 is not formed if anhydride is not formed.
I think I am pretty sure on this one..

only 1,4 dude. 1,2 readily form a cyclic anhydride. 1,3 its rare but chances are possoble.
but 1,4 being very far away, no chance at all.

i have a small question, what are cases when anhydride is not formed?
39
Dr.House

so A is 1,4 dimethyl benzene i.e para xylene.

No anhydride and 3 products being formed says that it has to be a 1,4 species... on the benzene ring
so C should be...
