Can someone plz explain how and when does ring expansion occur? thanks in advance!
1ring expansion occurs wen carbocation is an intermediate to provide stability. it occurs upto 5 member ring generally
1both of u r rite,but not completely..it doesnt happen in every reaction
it happens only in three situations(three kinds of reaction)

but eg. it will nt take place when reaction is going through SN2 reaction( do u understand.why it is so??)
19remember......ring expansion occurs in any reaction where 1 step expansion can reach a ring lower than or equal to a 6 membered ring but not further!!!!
