CHEMICAL EQUILIBRIUM

1.B.P of H2O(l) increases when
a.pressure is increased
b.pressure is decreased
c.when studied at mountain

2.consider the endothermic reaction;
Fe3+ + cl- → Fecl2+
Eq. may be disturbed by :
a.addition of Fe(NO3)3
b.addition of AgNO3
c.change in temp.
d.addition of catalyst

3.considedr the gas phase reaction:
2A + B→ C + D
the equilibrium mixture is subjected to following changes for both products and ractants

a.a decrease in volume
b.increase in temp.
c.addition of reactants
d.adittion of inert gas

4.. CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING REACTIONS :

... a. 2Cu2+ + 4I- →→Cu2I2 + I2
......b.Fe3+ + SCN-→→[Fe(SCN)]2+

boiling point is basically the temperature at which the vapour pressure of the liquid becomes equal to the atmospheric pressure...

see (b) and (c) have the same meaning as pressure decreases with altitude...
and by now it must be evident that the answer is(a )

therefore (a) is the answer....

2
(a) decrease in volume at const temp and pressure.....means increase in moles per unit volume therefore the reaction will shift in the forward direction
(b)increasing temperature shifts the equilibrium in the direction of endothermic direction i.e in this case it cannot be determined
(c)addition of reactants shifts the reaction in the forward direction
as the added substance is consumed in the forward direction
(d)an inert gas does not alter the state of equilibrium when added at constant volume

however an inert gas shifts the equilibrium depending upon the nature of the reaction when added at constant volume(it has the same effect as the decrease in moles per unit volume hence the reaction will shift in the direction where moles per unit volume increases) ie in the backward direction in this case

for 2:
as the reaction is endothermic change in temparature will surely alter the equilibrium.
if we add AgNO3 Cl- will be precipitated as AgCl, as the conc. of reactions cange the eq. will be disturbed.
if we add catalyst eq. will reach faster but will not be disturbed.
