Must see in cyclic process(Its not 22.22%)

Plot a curve b/w P vs V
plot:

A(V0,P0)
B(V0,3P0)
C(3V0,P0)

join A, B, C with straight lines

yeah.. :D

This is indeed a great problem.

Try solving it.. Definitely a QOD material!

for A-B PROCESS:

(isochoric) :- NO WORK

ΔQ=ΔU +0 => ΔQ = ΔU = nCvΔT ----1.

Δ(PV)=nRΔT => nΔT= (PΔV+VΔP)/R = (0+ 2P0V0)/R

So, ΔQ = Cv2P0V0/R ----2

for B-C PROCESS:

(kuchh bhi process!!!) :-

ΔQ=0

ΔW= 4P0V0 (area under curve B-C)

for C-A PROCESS:

(isobaric) :-

ΔW = -2P0V0

ΔQP = nCPΔT = -VE QUANTITY (temp decreases).. so not required..

so, efficiency = (total work done)/ (positive heat supplied) X 100

ξ = [2P0V0/R ] / [2P0V0CV/R]
= R/CV x100 = 2/5 % = 40%

plz check it.. it can be wrong :P made it long ago ...

Sorry D is mid point of BC

Lokesh Verma ·

well yes it is wrong abhishek.. we saw this last proof..

basically the mistake as i felt was that D is taken as the midpoint! Which is not true (If i remember correctly!!)

Pls check the point D..

made a typo

actually 3ln3/ 5 + 3ln3 = 39.72%

Well what i found then was heat is being absorbed and released about D (where temp is max i suppose)...
But i'm confused now after so "many" (Sky now its alright) answers...

:(
