it can be simplified to

22x+2 - 2x2-1 = (x-1)2-4

for x>3 or for x<-1 , LHS is negative whereas RHS is positive

so x ε [-1,3]

for x ε (-1,3) LHS is positive whereas RHS is negative

so at x = -1 and 3, LHS = RHS =0
