For first one, I think taking Log on both sides should do.

oh come on,.....you think i didn't try that.it gives only log(x1x2)....

the second questoin.. .should it not be one root independent of lamda?

in case your question is correct.. is that root lamda or a?

2.we have to find value of alpha for which equation
has one real root independent of lamda.
