Why are Group 18 elements bigger in size than Group 17 elements?

The valence shell E.C. of group 18 elements is complete i.e. of order ns2 or ns2np6. Therefore, screenimg effect increases which reduces the nuclear pull over the valence shell electrons. Hence the size of atoms expand.
Thus size of atoms of noble gases expands nd is more than that of group 17 elements'.
