if there are n arithmetic means between a and b,then common difference d is-(b-a)/(n+1).......how???

If there are n arithmetic means inserted btwn a and b, then it becomes another AP,

a, .......(n A.M's)......, b

Total no. of terms in this AP = n + 2

Now, find the common difference using the formula for n th term of an AP.
