field at centre is 0

but the ans is kq/d2 towards the charge q

the net field inside the cube will be 0 due to charge re distribution on the surface of the metallic cube...

this is possible wen the field due to redistributed charge on the cube is equal and opposite to the external charge...

the field due to external charge q is kq/d2 away from the charge q

thus field due to redistributed charge must be kq/d2 towards the charge q!! [1]

potential at the center of the cube due to charge q is kq/d

and E=-dv/dr

hence electric field will be kq/d2

is this method correct....????

oh sorry i had calculated net field to be 0, but field due to charges on external surface will be aligned so that the direction of field is away from q.

thanks subhomoy

@Rahul u are wrong because d is a constant
