Exchange of energy is transfer of energy from one system to the surrounding of vice versa.

For eg.
When the hot body is kept in a cold room. Heat energy flows from system to surrounding

This is energy exchange

i think its the exchange of energy during transition of electrons between d and p shells .... isseh cor kar wat else can happen [12]......

make a p orbital containing 2 electrons in each px,py,pz

electrons frm each suborbital exchange among themselves in order to loose energy called exchange energy
and hence attain stability thats why half filled orbitals r very stable

vishal is rite,,[1]

yep, i agree with vishal, but i try to explain it in a bit more easy manner,

see the picture

it shows the outer config of chromium 24....
in 1st case, in d orbital, the electron can transit in only 3 more(the condition is that it cannot do to unfilled degenerate orbital)
while in other case, it cane have 4 transitions...during this movement(exchanges)it loses energy, which is known as exchange enery.

More the exchange energy, more is the stability

but vishal, u said, half filled r stable, i donot agree wid u on dat point........
half filled as well as fully filled electonic configurations r stable.

this is the reason for their stability...exchange energy as well as symmetry in arrangement of electrons.......

had that been the case, nitrogen wud have been more stable than neon and berilleium more than lithium.......

i hope i m clear........

@ RAHUL

EXCHANGE ENERGY IS RELATED TO ENTROPY OF THE SYSTEM IT IS HOW A SYSTEM CAN BE ACHIEVED FOR DE GENERATE ORBITALS OR OF VERY NEAR ENERGY THE ELECTRONS CAN BE FILLED IN DIFFERENT WAYS ALTHOUGH ALL THE SYSTEMS LOOOKS SIMILAR B'COS ALL THE ELECTRONS ARE THE SAME

IF WE NUMBER THE ELECTRONS AS 1,2,3,4......THEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE DIFFERENT ARRANGE MENTS
DUE TO THIS DIFFERENT ARRANGEMENTS THE SYSTEM GETS STABLISED (AS THE ENTROPY IS INCREASING )AND THE ENERGY PER RE-ARRANGEMENT POSSIBLE IS CALLED EXCHANGE ENERGY
EXCHANGE ENERGY FOR PAIRED ELECTRON IS GREATER THAN UNPAIRED ELECTRON
EXCHANGE ENERGY DOES NOT DEPEND UPON THE THE SUB SHELL OR THE DISTANCE FROM THE NUCLEOUS
WE ARE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CALCULATE THE EXCHANGE ENERGY BUT WE CAN COMPARE IT WITH PAIRING ENERGY WITH THE HELP OF THE PRACTICAL DATA IT HELPS US TO UNDERSTAND THE E-CONFIGURATION OF THE ELEMENTS

i m not saying that half filled ones r more stable than fully filled ones i m saying that thats y thay r more stable than other configurations
