polymer chemistry

Peopl. think polymer is concept less topic if u too think so hav a look at it

Assertion:Nylon 6,6 is a copolymer

Reason: a copolymer is one that is build using two monomer,
in case of nylon 66 , 1,4 butane-dicarboxylic acid is a monomer but hexan-1,6 diamine is not

What do u get??[1][1]

what i'm saying is.....not everyone refers the trustworthy source you refer to......so I don't think that JEE ppl (or you) shd frame a ques'n based on such a thing....

NOT THAT WHAT U DID WAS WRONG.......JUST THAT THE DEF'N IS OPEN FOR DEBATE.....

no dude i don't know waht the jee people are thinking, but i know 1 thing ,definitions never change as they are the building blocks of a subject ,for trust worthy definitions see trustworthy sources,i don't know whther this sort of ques. will come or not but i wanted to say that conceptual questions can be framed from anywhere

I read them......but do u really think everyone in India read that def'n of a polymer?? Don't u think that IIt know well enuf not to take advantage of such multi-defenitive terms??

Grandmaster ·

hey read defn 1 and defn 2 they are taken from valuable sources ,then your dilemma should be solved

nylon 6,6 is formed frm condensation polymerisation( step growth)
and not frm chain growth !!!

then y the big confusion/??

Why isn't hexan1,6diamine a monomer??? if it weren't for hexan1,6diamine, there wouldn't be any Nylon6,6 at all......Can u imagine a life without nylon6,6???? It would be appaling [11]

hey dude the ans is

A is wrong
R is correct

Explantion

defn1: a monomer is a cmpnd that can form polymer by itself(i.e. alone by itself)

so hexane1,6diamine is not a monomer

defn2: a copolymer is one that is made up of 2 monomers .

As hexane1,6diamine is not a monomer(refer defn 1) so,nylon 6,6 is not a copolymer

DUDE : how do u decide wether hexan-diamine is mononmer or polymer??

24
eureka123 ·

nooooooo hexan-1,6 - diamine is polymer..................so A is correct, R is incorrect

dohnorite ahi
nylon 66 is a copolymer of adipic acid n hexamethyl diamine

Reason: a copolymer is one that is build using two monomer,
