Dimensions and Errors - Doubts..!

1)The metre is defined as the distance by travelled light in 1/299,792,458 second. Why didn't people choose some easier number such as 1/300,000,000 second? Why not 1 second?

2)Suppose you are told that the linear size of everything in the universe has been doubled overnight. Can you test this statement by measuring sizes with a metre stick? Can you test it by using the fact that the speed of light is a universal constant and has not changed? What will happen if all the clocks in the universe also start turning at half the speed?

since velocity of light is a constant .

and is 299 792 458 m/s

u can also use formula

v = d/ t

d = vt

for the second problem ..
we can't realise this with a measuring stick as there the 1 m length will be doubled too ..

yes assuming the speed of light remains constant the time taken to travel 1 m in the new scenario would be 2*1/299792458 thus different from the previous time ... (here we of course assume that time travels at normal speed ... which an be proved as in a simple clock .. the second hand (which primariily decides time) would be twice as large but the one second circumferential distance would also double .. thus giving it the same time - (2d/2r)=d/r for one second )

assuming it is in addition to the above change .. now every phenomenon will take double the time it used to take .. now the speed of light is defined as distance travelled in a second now as we see .. the time taken to travel a metre(the new one) would be not 2/299.. but as here the clocks run at half speed it would only cover half of that time in the specified "time" thus - 1/299... which means .. no change from the normal phenomenon .. thus this change negates the above change .. meaning .. the speed of light experiment wouldnt work
