A steady non- turbulent stream of water comes out of a tap and falls vertically downward. As it does so, the diameter of the stream appears to get smaller, what is the reason?

according to eq. of continuity,
A₁V₁=A₂V₂
as water moves downward v increases due to free fall acceleration.
but product av=constant
so, a decreases to keep the product constant.

so the stream dia decreases.
