pls tell me how to find the hybridisation of a complex compound or ion?

1) check the no of bond pairs.

a) if its 4, its either tetrahedral(sp3) or square planar(dsp2)

b) if its 6, its either sp3d2 or d2sp3.

2) a) if the ligand attached is a strong one (remember the spectrochemical series , anyhow)
then its dsp2 or d2sp3 (inner d-orbitals will be used)

b) if its a weak ligand, then sp3 or sp3d2.

whenever a strong field ligand is used then the

no of bond pairs is 4 it shud be dsp2

is 6 it shud be d2sp3

and for 4 structure should be square planar not tetrahedral.
