A question came in AIEEE 2011 asking the same for Gd. How do we find it?

they are f block elements................it lies in lanthinides where the nearest noble gas is Xe......
due it is a n f block element it will have ns² where n stands for the no. of shells it has.....
rest we have got to remember.........
