Circular motion

A collar of negligible size slides over the surface of horizontal circular rod for which coefficient of friction is 0.3.The collar is projected with a speed of 4 m/s and the radius of the ring is 10 cm.Find the distance moved by the collar before coming to rest.g=9.8m/s2

How does the radius of the collar ring matter if mass is negligible? o.O

ya there is but diagrams are not usually uploaded here...some error occurs!

n1=mg
n2=mv2/r
fk=.3(n1+n2)
=.3m(g+v2/r)
a=-fk/m=.3(g+v2/r)
vds/dt=-.3(g+v2/r)
∫ds=-∫vdv/.3(g+v2/r) (from v0to 0)
I think u will get displacement(s) after integrating it

  • Ashutosh Gour swarna you have a good mind and approach but you made certain errors. The force will be resultant of g and v^2/r so root over is missing. Also in the second last line it should be v dv/ds instead of v ds/dt.
