Friction between a table, a mass on it and ground

A block of mass m slides on a horizontal table under the action of a horizontal force. the coeffecient of friction between the mass and table is μ1, while that between the table and ground is μ2.
Mass of block: m
Mass of talbe: M

The table does not move.

Find the total frictional force between the legs of the table and the floor?

The answer is μ1mg

This is because we analyse the contact surface between the mass and the table. The force of friction between mass and table is μ1mg.

Now we come to the table. The table is stopped by the friction between the table and the ground. The only other horizontal force is the friction between the table and the ground.

These two have to be equal (but opposite in direction)

Hence the force will be μ1mg
