two blocks are kept on a smooth horizontal table.... they are interconnected by an ideal spring of spring constant k..... A force is aplied as shown....... findthe max. compression of the spring.

Ans: m1F/(2k(m1+m2))

Elongation max when instantaneously at rrest

acm=F/m1+m2
Apply pseudo on both blocks now

Fnet2=F-m2a
Fnet1=m1a
Displace m1 by x1 and m2 by x2
W2=(F-m2a)x2
W1=(m1a)x1

ΔWnet=ΔU
=>(F-m2a)x2+(m1a)x1=k(x1+x2)2/2

x1+x2=2Fm1/k(m1+m2)
