see the basic is that it will be

if mass enclosed in the radius r= M

then the field will be GM/r2

so the quesiton is to find M

when R=r or r>R then mass enclosed is the whole mass of the earth... = Me

when it is less, it is the Mass times the ratio of the volume.
so it is Me(r/R)3

see u can do it it with law of gravitational flux . like total electric flux through a closed surface is q/ε similarly the gravitational flux through a surface is 4π Gm. try it it works....

The logic...........similarity of gravitational and coulomb's forces
