"A thick mirror forms a number of images out of which second one is brightest."

i cant get head or tail of the statement can some one explain please

second one is brightest becoz .... it is a suerposition of two images...

and the rest will be less brighter ....

oh i cant express...

ok i get it
the first image is the faint bcoz it is formed by reflexion of some part of light from the "transparent" surface!!
i think you can understand from ther on

well this is bcos there are 2 surfaces...

the outer most surface will give very partial reflection...

then the glassed surface will cause reflection...

then there will be multiple reflection

then the second image is bright as it comes after reflexion from silvery surface as some light is absorbed at this time the subequent images are fainter
its that clear now ??

subhash do you have a looking glass at home
put your finger right on top of its surface and turn all the lightds of the room on
stare carefully i think you 'll understand

you shud see at least 2-3 images clearly
the first is the most difficult to observe but it is there after all
