products above are for hot HI, for cold HI, u get alcohol + haloalkane

can any1 plz tell me why(CONCEPT) for cold HI , PhOH and CH₃I R Formed ????

Another piece of info : This reaction is SPONTANEOUS because a gas(SO₂) is being evolved, so the carbocation formation WILL occur in absence of pyridine. This wouldn't work had it been an aryl/vinyl group holding D and OH.
