one will oxidise to form benzoic acid with COOD not COOH
1 benzyl Methanol

I have posted the 3rd one.. (deleted 2 of my earlier posts in this one :D)

in cannizzaro reaxn it does n't form acid ,it forms carboxylate ion

hmm.. see i cna tell u some steps...

first OD- will attack the aldehyde spot.

then H- from the CHO group will leave and attack the other molecule.
***edit***
This will be CH(O-)(OD) not CHO.. bcos OD- will already be attached to CHO!
***end edit***
That will be Ph-CH2O-

which will be nutralised by D+

Hmm.. yes it is i agree.. but then that is how the mechanism of cannizarro reaction is...

But then yeah .. why H- acts as a leaving reagent is bcos of the high charge on O-. I think It also acts as a leaving reagent in a few other reactions!

see there is a small thing.. i think you add a base.. KOH or something..

so the first step will depend on if you have added KOD or KOH.

Then what do you use as a medium. D2O .. so the 2nd part should not be an issue :)

yes in cann. reaxn we add a base but in this case we r adding d20
