39In the second one, I don't think the reaction would occur.... NaIO4 oxidises cis diols, but the oxidation will cause a C-C bond of the benzene ring to break, destroying its aromaticity.
Zinc dust removes hydroxyl groups from the benzene ring, so E would just be three benzene rings fused to each other.
