if in a compound , both methyl and hydride shift are possible from the same carbon atom........then which is more likely to take place????

Hydride shift is generally preferred.

Unless the Methyl shift gives a far more stable intermediate.

Generally methyl shift takes place in examples where we have ring expansion... due to high strain energy release.
