solubility

solubility of AgCl in pure water is 8*10-6
solubility of AgBr in pure water is 4*10-6
solubility of AgI in pure water is10-6

these numbers are not the solubitlity product values na?

otherwise it will be a googly ;)

in either case this is a very good and important question :)

these are the values of individual solubility u can calculate the value of solubility product with help of these

solubility products of-

AgCl: 64E-12 =K1

AgBr: 16E-12 =k2

AgI: E-12 = k3

let solubilities of agcl, agbr and agi be s1, s2, s3 respectively /

due to common ion effect...

Ag+ concentration will be because of all three..

so, we can say,

(s1+s2+s3)s1 = k1. --- 1

(s1+s2+s3)s2 = k2 ----2

(s1+s2+s3)s3 = k3 -----3

from these three eqns,

represent s2, s3 in trms of s1 ...

:(

I was taking s1+s2+s3=another variable y so 3 var and 4 eqns :D

Didn' saw y=s1+s2+s3

:D
