then i dont think the quotient = the divisor X dividend + remainder.
what is the remainder of -17/3??:D
a very basic and simple one!!

when u divide a negative number by an integer , take the normal case( i.e. the positive case)
hence just assume the following to be 17/3
remainder =2 .
hence ur quotient AND remainder WILL BE NEGATIVE since ur numerator is a negative number
so quotient =-5
remainder= -2
no aditya...
the answer ;is not correct... the remainder always lies between 0 and n-1
Here the answer will be -17=3*(-6)+1
so the remainder will be 1
i know quotient is always integer what i meant to say is -5 X 3 + 2
yeah nishant is rite!!!!
coz in arithmetic system first of all REMAINDER is always +ve........
arre aditya -5X3 -2 wud give -17..not -5X3 +2.
nishant sir is right.
remainder is an integer between 0 to 1 less than the given number..
its not allowed to be negative as far as i know.....its the rules..... :)
